Tired of Being Tired? Unlocking Deep, Restorative Sleep with Ayurveda

Turn off the noise, ground your energy, and reclaim your rest.

Cozy evening setting with Golden Milk, ghee, and candlelight

It’s 11:30 PM. Your body is exhausted, but your mind is running a marathon. You’re replaying today’s meetings and worrying about tomorrow’s to-do list. This is the “tired but wired” state—a modern epidemic.

We often treat sleep as an inconvenience—something we have to do when we run out of time. But in Ayurveda, sleep (Nidra) is one of the Three Pillars of Life. It is the time when your body digests not just food, but emotions, experiences, and stress.

The Evening Ritual: 3 Steps to Deep Rest

If you want to wake up energized, you have to prepare for sleep before your head hits the pillow. Here is a simple, 3-step evening routine to lower your Vata (restless energy) and signal to your body that it is safe to rest.

1. The Digital Sunset

Blue light from phones tricks your brain into thinking it’s high noon, blocking melatonin production. Make a hard rule: No screens 60 minutes before bed. Swap the scroll for a physical book or gentle stretching.

2. The Grounding Drink: Golden Milk

Forget the nightcap (alcohol actually disrupts deep sleep). Instead, try this ancient soothing elixir.

☕ Rayshree’s Golden Milk Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm organic milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/2 tsp high-quality Turmeric powder
  • Pinch of Black Pepper (activates the turmeric)
  • Pinch of Nutmeg (a natural sleep aid)
  • 1/2 tsp Ghee (lubricates the tissues)

Method: Whisk ingredients over low heat until warm. Sip slowly while sitting in a quiet, dim room.

3. The Physical Anchor: Padabhyanga (Foot Massage)

When we are stressed, energy gets stuck in our heads (overthinking). To sleep, we must pull that energy down.

Take 2 minutes to massage warm Ghee or Rayshree Relaxing Oil into the soles of your feet. This ancient practice, called Padabhyanga, instantly calms the central nervous system and grounds you into your body.
